Yoga Teacher Training

Yoga Teacher Training is often the beginning of a new cycle in a Yoga practitioners journey. The seed being planted that deepens the journey towards your Dharma (your life purpose), whether you are a Yoga teacher, wish to become a teacher or simply would like to deepen your knowledge. The right teacher training, embarked on at the right time, can be life-changing.

These Yoga Teacher Trainings teach Yoga that is deeply rooted in ancient Philosophy, as a practice that uses the physical body as a vehicle for our transformation. In this way, we have the opportunity to transcend beyond this physical layer into increased self-awareness through movement meditation, as we shift deeper into inner connection and spiritual connection. Whilst also teaching in such a way that Yoga stays relevant to our modern day lives and evolving with the wave of body sensitive and trauma informed inclusive Yoga.

An extensive modality that has been around for thousands of years, this is a life long learning journey. This course sets the foundation from which you can learn and understand the pillars of Yoga and Yoga teaching. Whereby you will learn the basics of Yoga Anatomy & Physiology, Philosophy, subtle Yoga (energetics) and teaching Yoga. From this platform, you can continue to grow and develop into many diverse branches of Yoga. This is the beauty of Yoga, it is a practice and journey that stays with you throughout your entire life that just keeps taking you deeper and deeper into the layers of your awareness and experience.

In addition, this Teacher Training empowers you beyond these basics, to discover your unique gifts that you have to offer the world, whilst supporting you through the challenges that arise, on the way there.

This is an embodied Yoga Teacher Training but what does that mean?

Yoga is meditation in movement and a practice of increasing our awareness. It’s conscious and a felt sensed experience with ourselves on the mat as we everyday, meet ourselves as we are with a deep sense of curiosity. As we draw deeper into our inner world, we move or simply just be, in any way that feels right for us in every moment. The more we listen within, the more the inner voice becomes louder and the more connected we become. This is a practice that is enriched by Yoga Philosophy and living Yoga, on the mat and into every aspect of our daily life.

An intensive Yoga training is a deep delve into ourselves, into Yoga Sadhana (dedicated devotional practice) and into the philosophy. Beginning this journey is a big commitment to not only the contact hours that we share together but also to your personal practice, your self study and your practice teaching.

Sasha cultivates Teacher Trainings deeply rooted in mutual support, respect, non-judgment and compassion. Again, staying true to the Yogic pathway, we create a welcoming and inclusive environment as a foundation from which you can thrive. Groups are intimate (around 5 people) which allows for individual attention, where you can fine tune your practice and teaching but also feel heard and seen.

The beauty of Yoga is that there are so many branches and pathways to choose from, all often leading to the one goal of Yoga : deeper internal and external connection, freedom & self-realisation. Our Yoga Teacher Training programmes are registered with Yoga Alliance. All YA YTT’s follow a certain structure but are unique in their delivery and teaching style so it’s  important that you choose the right teacher and style of Yoga for you.

200hr YTT

The Foundations

Vinyasa & Yin

The sacred balance of the Yin and the Yang, these polar energies weave together to create harmony. Together, we explore elemental free-flowing, liberating Vinyasa Flow and the still, more inward practice of Yin Yoga. Learn how to create and lead intelligently sequenced, soulful Vinyasa and Yin classes, enriched with nurturing verbal cues and hands on assists.

What does Elemental mean?

There are 4 elemental Vinyasa sequences and 4 elemental Yin sequences that are the backbone of this Yoga Teacher Training. Each element embodies unique qualities of nature, each of which nourishes us in a unique way. From grounding Earth (hip opening) practices to fluid, intuitive Water flows (spinal awakening), to expansive heart-opening Air (back-bending) and finally, igniting, twisty, core awakening Fire practices. All of these elements not only connect us deeper to the cyclical patterns of nature around us but like the Chakras, they all come together to create balance. As practitioners and teachers, these elements offer a range of different tools and energies to play with each day, as we are intuitively guided by what we and our students need.

Yoga teaching is a not just a job, it’s a way of life. As we begin to read and reflect over key features of Yoga Philosophy such as Ahimsa (non harm) and Satya (truthfulness), we begin to not only explore these elements on the mat but also off the mat, in our daily lives. We begin to go deeper on this journey that amplifies our light but also uncovers our shadows. It’s a beautiful journey of self- discovery and instigates real change with ourselves, in our relationships and in how we move through our life.

As energy workers, we have a responsibility to look after our energy so that we can best serve our students from a grounded, authentic and inspirational place. On this course, we will explore not only the basics of subtle energy from the Vedic perspective (Vinyasa) but we also explore the Chinese Medicine perspective (Yin). In addition, we will learn techniques and pathways that support us in managing our daily energy through protecting, cleansing and boundaries.

Key aspects of this YTT

Interactive Training

This means that you self practice the sequences and study the philosophy at home so that when we are together, let’s say for Morning practice, you already have a good understanding of the Yoga sequences therefore we can enjoy going deeper into the experience together. In terms of Philosophy, this self study and self reflection means that when we come together, we can discuss all that we have learnt so far, on our Yogic journey.

Online Channel

You will be given access to all of the pre-recorded 200hr Yoga sequences so that you can practise and learn them before we are even together. This is one part of the structure of this course. The other part is learning the foundation of how to teach Yoga. Eventually as we elevate beyond these foundations, we show you the pathway whereby you can tap into your own individual creativity, that allows you to step into your own unique power as a practitioner and teacher.

Inclusive Yoga

Morning Vinyasa practices can be strong and empowering however there is always a nurturing tone of listening and feeling. We all show up to practice everyday in different places, having had different life experiences. We all have unique bodies, our bones are shaped in unique ways, we hold tension in different places, we are all exposed to different ways of life. And on top of this, everyday our mental, emotional states and energetic pathways are in constant fluctuation. Therefore, an inclusive Yoga class is full of variations and different expressions of each posture, to empower your students into choosing the right pathway for them on that day so that all of your students can feel that Yoga is for them and for everyone.

However for a class to be truly inclusive, welcoming and empowering, we need more than just variations. Our language and our actions as a teacher creates inclusivity and sets the tone of the experience.

Nature

Weather permitting, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, we will venture into local nature to practice teach, learn adjustments and enjoy discussions on the direct earth or by the river. This supports us in managing our energy and in embodying elemental Yoga.

In-depth Manuals

Our high quality Manuals are the backbone of this course. You will receive 3 x in-depth manuals that are created in such a way that, not only support your learning at home but also serve as ‘Yoga bibles’ that you can reference for years to come.

“I am so glad I chose Shanti Yoga for my Teacher Training! Sasha is a wonderful teacher, guiding you through every step with compassion and understanding. You are given so much information and support, shown lots of different perspectives and pathways within yoga. Whether you would like to be a yoga teacher or are simply seeking to deepen your practice, I could not think of a better environment to take that step, you will learn so much about yoga, and yourself.”

— Kerry Mullin

“I am truly going to miss the amazing weekends we spent together, inspiring, uplifting, deep, and lighthearted. They have been a fantastic treat, shared with really wonderful people which has allowed me to grow as a person and yoga practitioner. The course was very comprehensive. The main take away for me is having built the confidence to teach a well-sequenced yoga class and to be able to transmit to others some of the wonderful feelings and benefits that I have received”
